Synopsis

Ernest Hemingway's For Whom the Bell Tolls follows Robert Jordan, an American dynamiter working with anti-fascist guerrillas during the Spanish Civil War. Tasked with demolishing a strategic bridge near Segovia to aid a Republican offensive, Jordan navigates complex relationships within the guerrilla group, including with their leader, Pablo, and his wife, Pilar. Amidst the mission's tensions, he falls in love with María, a young woman traumatised by fascist violence. The novel delves into themes of duty, love, and the individual's role in collective struggle, culminating in a poignant reflection on sacrifice and the interconnectedness of humanity.
